Orthodontic Treatment of Cleft Palate and Lip

Abstract
Orthodontic treatment may be required at any or all of four seperate stages; 1) in infancy before the initial surgical repair of the lip, 2) during the late primary and early mixed denctition, 3) during the late mixed and early permanent dentition, 4) in the late teens after the completion of facial growth, in conjuntion with orthognathic surgery.
Especially, infantile orthopedics may help patients with cleft palate and lip to suckle milk and to grow up normally, and they also help relieve the stress of infants¢¥ parents
Patients with cleft palate and lip routinely require extensive and prolonged orthodontic treatment, speech therapy, psycological care, cosmetic surgery, and so on. A team approach may be needed for the best results.
